Sunnyside Cafe Review, Carrollton, GA

reviewed: march 18, 2009

It was her birthday and my wife and I had heard several good reports about Sunnyside Cafe in Carrollton, GA.  We lined up care for our kids and headed there for a quiet lunch.

Sunnyside Cafe is located on Rome Street a couple of blocks off Adamson Square in the old Food Outlet shopping center.  The

storefront is nice but unassuming and the dining area moderately sized with a

spot in the front corner for live music.  The restaurant was clean and we were greeted

quickly by cheerful people.

One of Sunnyside Cafe's selling points is that they serve breakfast all day.  Their

menu presents a hearty selection of waffles, eggs, and breakfast meats cooked

to order.  However, they also have daily specials, soups and sandwiches. And coffee.

Now I realize that just about every restaurant in town serves coffee.  What makes

it worth pointing out here is that Sunnyside Cafe serves fresh, locally-roasted

coffee from Bowdon Coffee Roasters using whole beans from Africa and South America.

And my wife, a huge coffee fan, noticed the difference.

After browsing the menu and reviewing the daily specials, we decided on a more

traditional lunch. My wife ordered a soup and sandwich plate while I went for a

burger (medium well) and fries.  Our food came out hot and nicely presented

within fifteen minutes.

We both found our meals quite good and the portions were generous.  We

finished up with a bread pudding that was excellent, though not always available.

Our server kept the drinks topped off and was very attentive.

Sunnyside Cafe offers a pleasant break in the day with a twist on down home

cooking that most folks will enjoy.  Even if you're not out for a big meal, the coffee

is sure worth the stop.

Likes: Simple, clean dining with a roomy feel, good cooking and friendly people, a few unique menu items worth trying, and great coffee!

Dislikes: Some of the seating is very close to the kitchen and the noise can occasionally be disruptive
